The Unusual Freedom Behind 'Alternative Funerals'

Updated: Apr 11, 2020

Choosing how you leave this world can be just as important as the way you live in it.

When you think about it, the afterlife is more of a mystery than ever. With Christianity less prevalent in Western society, the traditional storyline of “what happens when you die” isn’t set in stone (pun intended). In the same way, neither is our “leaving the world” ceremony. In 2019, rituals surrounding death and how we say goodbye have become more about the person themselves and less about a specific custom.

Traditional funerals are becoming a choice, as opposed to the only option. Cremation, embalming and burials still exist of course, but so do a range of alternative options that are environmentally beneficial and uniquely meaningful.

It all begs the question: How do you want to leave this world? As we move forward with technology and spirituality, let’s explore some of the options available to us as a last hurrah to planet Earth.
